IN FRONT OF THE AUDIENCE7/29/2025 They don't know if you haven't slept for a week. They don't know that your dog is sick and needed a lot of care. They don't know that you forgot to eat your breakfast and running only on caffeine. They don't know that you argued with your spouse yesterday. They don't know that you've rashes on your back and your hair stands up when in fright. Take a deep breath. This is not about you. Never about you. Calm your nerves. Get on your prepared bit. Tell yourself: "This is for their benefit." Serve. Help. Give your 100% attention. Without you knowing it, you're time's up. Rinse and Repeat.

WRITE IT YOURSELF7/25/2025 Ever since people found out that I'm an author, they kept coming to me with a idea for my next book or a story that 'should' be considered for my next project. I can't write for you. I'm not a ghostwriter, some are, just find them over the Internet. I can't accept a story just because you think it's worth including in my next project. You do you, I do mine. Let's keep that very clear. Another one came with a rebuttal of my book, telling me what else I could have added or elaborated. Thank you for the comments but I haven't thought about that, that means it's forever out of the book. Maybe you write your own and take your favorite systems models and give it a fresh bath. How about that? You do you, I do mine.

DON'T SACRIFICE7/23/2025 An admirable community colleague of mine told me that she used her personal money to launch a very successful community event last year. I told her that you don't have to do that. It should be a community event where all the stakeholders take the risks, costs, and own it successes too. If you're a changemaker with that mindset, you'll be broke, sick, and frustrated even before you even achieve anything that's of scale and relevant. It's an admirable trait to be generous and all-out in your approach, but if it's at the expense of your mental health, financial well-being, family, and personal life, think about it more. We want changemakers who are healthy, wealthy, and mentally sound, to continue being at their best game. No, we don't need heroes, we want provocateurs. |
